CB has emailed Martin Goss, the Cabinet member for Waste Management and cc'ed our Castle ward councillors (13/01/2026).
The email:
Dear councillor Goss,
I have been reviewing the new Recycling and Waste Strategy for Colchester (see post 7/01/2026 ) with interest.
The government webpage states the implementation date for the new scheme is 31 March 2026. Read guidance
As you are aware the use of wheeled bins in Priory Street and St Julians Grove is a problem. The main concerns for Castle Ward are outlined on page 127 of the Cabinet meeting on 23 October 2024. Since then there has been no communication with the residents, excluding a press release on 24 October 2024 which has since been removed from the Council website.
I also want to highlight the voices of residents who share my concerns. Many residents have expressed feelings of uncertainty and anxiety regarding wheeled bins.
In conclusion, I urge you to reconsider the implementation of wheeled bins and take the time necessary to evaluate its implications thoroughly. I believe that a more well-rounded approach will ultimately lead to a better outcome for the Priory Street and St Julians Grove residents.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response regarding this issue which I will share on my blog (https://prioryarea.org).
Kind regards,
CB

Thanks for your message.
Wheeled bins are still being investigated and all bin routes will be considered for accessibility and suitability for wheeled bins.
Communication will be forthcoming later in 2026.
Regards Martin
